My name is Kimbra Kincheloe. I grew up in the 54th District and I’m running as it’s Delegate in the General Assembly.
Why am I running…?
Well, I’ll tell you. Those who know me know that I’m a big Redskins fan. Last weekend I got to see their opening game and watch one of my heroes ,Joe Gibbs, fight to win a narrow victory. You see, I like people who fight for something they believe in.
My greatest hero and the greatest fighter I know is my mother, Virginia Kincheloe. She’s here, but unless you look hard you might miss her. Don’t let her size fool you, though. Just ask anyone who was on Spotsylvania’s Board of Supervisors as she fought to open her Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic. My mother has instilled in me a sense of hard work and doing the right thing. Often that’s meant fighting against the odds. I helped Mom found her Spay/ Neuter Clinic with the kind of committed determination that I have tried to follow my whole life.
So, why am I running for Delegate? Well, imagine my surprise when down in Richmond fighting for an issue dear to my heart – the elimination of gas chambers from animal shelters across Virginia - that I and a roomful of other people were told by my opponent - the chairman of the subcommittee hearing this bill - that he did not appreciate all the phone calls, emails and faxes he had just received. Such contact, he told us, was not a way to “gain his favor”. After much testimony by those there in support of the bill, the chairman brought forth a single email of opposition from a friend of his who was not even present. He used this email to persuade his subcommittee to kill the bill. Essentially, ONE email had over ruled those of us who had been too active, too committed, too citizen-like.
Since he killed the bill in sub-committee, there is no recorded vote, no transcript, no video tape. Why? Because this same chairman, and his majority friends in Richmond have insisted on these so-called “secret” meetings.
Right then and there I knew what I had to do. Thirteen years of uncontested office is enough. I’m running to give this district a choice to elect someone who will fight to be sure their voices are heard. Vote for me, Kimbra Kincheloe, as your Delegate of the 54th District and together we can make the right things happen.
